At Pier Laser Med Spa, although we expect technology one day to come up with an effective, cost efficient, reliable way to get tighter skin, we are not there yet. There are many machines, which mostly employ radiofrequency being sold with manufacturer's claims that they effectively tighten skin. Although I believe that sometimes there is some temporary benefit, the studies documenting this as cost/effective are usually funded by the manufacturers. Objective comparisons are lacking. A double-blinded, placebo controlled prospective study by a University has not been done. Could it be that mildly slapping the area for some mild skin swelling is just as effective as these expensive machines? What are the longterm effects? Are the (albeit small) risks of dimpling, irregularities in texture or adverse effects worth it. We are still looking for a machine or treatment that delivers a "home run" in this area, but still have not been impressed with the current "state of the art", so we do not offer Skin Tightening to our patients at this time.
